Do garments physically house elements of feeling and emotion, transportable through time? Many admit to feeling the history of a vintage garment when worn, and Hope experienced this first-hand dressed in authentic 1920’s outfits on J. K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts, with three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood.
“It was an amazing experience. Because the movie had such a big budget they’d have a huge warehouse of clothes with many of them made in the 1920’s, shipped from all over the world. And the garments were clearly very well made considering they’re still around now and still in great condition; Much better quality than so much of the stuff you get today.
On set, it was like we stepped out of reality into a different time. We were our normal selves in the morning when we arrived but then a literal transformation took place after we were put in costume. We actually felt like people from the 1920s. It was quite amazing.”
